Search Console Errors

Search Console Errors

Overview

Search Console errors occur when Google detects problems while crawling or indexing a website. These errors appear in Google Search Console reports such as Indexing Coverage, Page Experience, and Enhancements. The reports identify pages that cannot be indexed or that fail to meet technical requirements for proper search visibility.

Common Causes

  • URLs returning HTTP errors such as 404 Not Found or 500 Server Error
  • pages blocked by robots.txt directives
  • pages marked with noindex meta tags
  • canonical tags pointing to different URLs than the page being crawled
  • sitemap entries referencing non-existent or redirected URLs

How the Problem Appears

  • Search Console reporting Excluded, Error, or Warning statuses in the Indexing report
  • important pages missing from search results despite being published
  • Search Console alerts notifying administrators of indexing problems
  • coverage reports listing pages as Discovered – currently not indexed

How It Is Diagnosed

  • reviewing the Indexing → Pages report in Google Search Console
  • inspecting affected URLs using the URL Inspection Tool
  • checking HTTP response codes for the reported pages
  • comparing sitemap URLs against the live page status
  • verifying robots directives and canonical tags within the page source

Typical Fix

  • correct server errors returning invalid HTTP responses
  • remove unintended noindex directives from pages intended for indexing
  • update sitemap files to include only valid, indexable URLs
  • ensure canonical tags reference the preferred page version
  • unblock important pages mistakenly restricted by robots rules

Technical Website Support

If Search Console errors are preventing your pages from being indexed correctly, technical troubleshooting may be required to identify and resolve the underlying issue.
