Getting More Google Reviews as a GTA Contractor

Getting More Google Reviews as a GTA Contractor

Overview

Google reviews are one of the strongest signals in local map pack rankings. GTA contractors with 30 or more reviews consistently outperform competitors with fewer reviews, even when the competitor’s website is technically stronger. Most contractor businesses complete dozens of jobs per year but receive only a handful of reviews because no system exists to request them. A consistent review process compounds over time and becomes a durable competitive advantage.

Common Causes of Low Review Volume

  • no process for requesting reviews after a job is completed
  • review link never sent to customers — relying on customers to find the profile on their own
  • review requests sent too long after the job, when the customer has moved on
  • review link pointing to the wrong Google listing or a duplicate profile
  • asking for reviews in a way that feels awkward or puts customers on the spot

How the Problem Appears

  • Google Business Profile showing fewer than 10 reviews despite years of operation
  • competitors in the same trade ranking higher in the map pack with more reviews
  • occasional reviews coming in randomly with no pattern
  • review count stagnant for months at a time

How to Build a Review System

  1. Get your review link — go to your Google Business Profile, click Share → Copy link. Shorten it with bit.ly for easy sharing
  2. Request at the right moment — ask immediately after the job is complete, when satisfaction is highest
  3. Text is more effective than email — send a short SMS: “Thanks for having us out today. If you have a moment, a Google review would really help our small business: [link]”
  4. Follow up once — if no review appears within 3 days, send one follow-up
  5. Make it a habit — add the review request to your job completion checklist

What Not to Do

  • do not offer incentives for reviews — Google’s policy prohibits this and can result in the listing being penalized
  • do not ask multiple customers at once in bulk — a sudden spike in reviews can trigger Google’s spam filter
  • do not ask anyone who had a negative experience — a bad review is worse than no review

Technical Website Support

If a contractor’s Google Business Profile is configured incorrectly, has duplicate listings, or review links are pointing to the wrong profile, technical support can identify and fix the underlying issue before a review campaign is started.
